Sandra de Pury

Sandra de Pury is a fourth generation winemaker at Yeringberg, and has been involved in making wine at there in one way or another her whole life. She grew up picking grapes, progressed to cooking lunch for the pickers, and now makes the wine, after recently graduating as a winemaker from Charles Sturt University.

Sandra spent the first decade of her working life as a chef, after completing an apprenticeship in Melbourne. She traveled widely as a chef, and cooked in fine dining restaurants in the U.S.A., Switzerland, Hong Kong and Melbourne.

In between cooking and winemaking, she also completed an MBA - which has proved very useful for managing a family business! Sandra has two small children, and took the whole family to France in 2006 to work a vintage in Bordeaux.

Yeringberg

Yeringberg is one of the most distinguished wine producing properties in the Yarra Valley of Victoria, and has been the home of the de Pury family since 1862. The magnificent, original two storey wooden winery and underground cellars are still intact and are classified by the National Trust.

The de Pury family currently produce around 1200 cases of Yeringberg wines each year from some of the oldest vines in the valley, and makes their wines only from estate-grown grapes; thus consistently reflecting the site, the weather and the vines.

Yeringberg operates a cellar door for only one weekend each year (May 16 & 17 in 2009), when the new vintage wines are released.
